Beyond the Frame
Collage as a tool for mental wellbeing and civic action — helping young people turn personal stories into a collective voice across North Macedonia, Italy and Ireland.
Two things kept apart, joined back together
Beyond the Frame links personal wellbeing with civic participation. We start by supporting young people’s mental health, then guide them to connect their own stories to the issues they share with their communities.
Wellbeing & resilience
Creative, therapeutic collage practices give young people new ways to express feelings, manage stress and build emotional resilience — with no prior art skills needed.
Civic participation
Reflection circles and civic-action collage challenges turn private experiences into shared messages, helping young people raise their voices on issues that matter to them.
Youth-worker capacity
An open-access toolkit and blended training equip youth workers across Europe with psychology-informed creative methods they can use in their everyday practice.
It’s low-cost, playful and non-verbal — a few magazines, paper and glue. That makes it deeply inclusive, working across language and literacy barriers, while carrying a long European tradition as a medium of social and political voice.
Three organisations, one European method
A partnership built across earlier Erasmus+ projects, combining psychology, creative arts and youth work.

Four work packages take young people from a research-grounded method, through training and creative practice, to public exhibitions and a shared museum.
Project management
Coordination, quality assurance, monitoring and risk management across the partnership.
Blended training for youth workers
Research framework, the Beyond the Frame Toolkit, online mentoring and an international training in Italy for 21 youth workers.
Creative workshops for young people
National collage workshops, reflection circles and civic-action challenges with 90 young people across the three countries.
Dissemination, exhibitions & virtual museum
Three national exhibitions, a Europe-wide communication effort and the virtual museum that gathers it all.
The Beyond the Frame Toolkit
A practical, open-access resource for youth workers — blending art therapy, social psychology and creative facilitation.
Grounded in research and co-created with practitioners during the training in Italy, the toolkit gives youth workers tested methods they can adapt to their own groups and contexts.
- Step-by-step collage activity guides for resilience and self-expression
- Reflection-circle prompts that connect personal stories to social issues
- Inclusive facilitation tips for migrants, NEETs and youth with fewer opportunities
- Guidance for running civic-action collage challenges in groups
- Adaptation notes for schools and adult-education settings

Available from 2026A gallery of young people’s voices
The virtual museum is the project’s open-access home — gathering the civic-action artworks, the stories behind them and the toolkit, so young people’s voices reach far beyond the exhibition walls. The gallery fills as workshops take place.
Artworks from three national exhibitions will be gathered here as a permanent, multilingual archive.
